My Favorite Books!
Many of you have inquired of me what are some good books to delve into as we are finding more time alone these days. I thought about this and I realized that over the past twenty years, so many books have affected me in one way or another, I could not possibly narrow it down to five or even ten. Here I want to list some really good books by category, as I share a little of my history and how they affected me as I was evolving from a good little born again Christian girl into a more expanded and aware version of my spiritual self that I embody now.
In the beginning, I found myself going to a soul healer while still deep into my Christian beliefs. I will admit, some of the books she assigned to me were way out of my comfort zone!
Here are the books I read in the very beginning of my awakening process.
You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay (love love love this book! I have given away at least twenty copies!)
Healing the Shame that Binds You by John Bradshaw
Toxic Faith by Stephen Arterburn
After I separated from my belief system, I found myself delving into anything other than the beliefs I was raised to embrace. I wanted to know as much as I could about what people believed, and so I cannot possibly list all of the books I devoured. In the early days I found myself quite poor, so I would go to the local library and just see what would pop out for me in the self help section, or the new age section, or even the philosophy or religious sections. Sometimes I would go to the local bookstore, which had comfortable chairs just inviting me to sit and read! After I read a chapter or two I would put the book back, and return later to read more. Yes, this may be a bit inethical, but I was poor! I never allowed my financial situation to hold me back from learning as much as I could!
Now I find myself the proud owner of probably around 300 books, more or less. Here are some of my favorites, by category.
Self Help
The Four Agreements, the Mastery of Love and the Gift of Knowledge by Don Miguel Ruiz
(any books by Wayne Dyer.. too many to list but my first love was Ten Secrets of Success)
The Emotion Code by Dr. Bradley Nelson
Choosing Easy World by Julia Rogers Hamrick
Channeled Wisdom
any books by Sanaya Roman
Omni Reveals the Four Principles of Creation and The Presence of the Soul by John L. Payne highly recommend.
Connecting With Guides, Spirit Healing etc
any books by Diane Stein my favorite is Psychic Healing with Spirit Guides and Angels
Healing Yourself With Light by LaUna Huffines
Shamanism or Shamanic Practices
Kindling the Native Spirit by Denise Linn (any books by her are wonderful!)
any books by Sandra Ingerman Shamanic Journeying and Soul Retrieval are my favorites
any books by Ted Andrews Animal Speak is my favorite
The Way of the Shaman by Michael Harner
I only recommend this one if you are extensively skilled in spirit healing! Not for the faint of heart!
Spirit Releasement Therapy by William J Baldwin
My newest favorite is a fairly new book by Damien Echols called High Magic. Although some of the meditations and rituals are a bit complicated I have found that I have been able to easily modify and simplify some of them to fit nicely with my shamanic rituals and they have added an intensifying effect on my work. Kind of like Miracle Grow does to plants!
I could go on and on but the key is to listen to your soul and your Highest Guidance System. I have gifted many books to many people and have later found that they never opened them up or felt drawn to the material. What I think is wonderful you may find painfully boring or out of touch with your experience of life.
We are all navigating life with our own perspective and our own individual experiences, cultural and inherited beliefs, thoughts and emotions. The best thing to do is to allow yourself to be drawn to the material that speaks to you. If none of these titles stimulate your interest, then, be led to something that does!
Never, never, never, take what you read as gospel truth! Question everything! Apply what you read to your own internal guidance! Be the master of your own journey. If something you read doesn't ring true for you, then put it aside.
If I have recommended a book that contains out of date material or information that is not all inclusive, then know that I probably forgot parts of what may be contained in some of these texts. These are books I have read over the past twenty years or so. I do not claim to advocate everything that may be said within the covers of these books. However, they impacted me in some way or another that I decided to keep them in my important book section! I always advocate inclusiveness and acceptance of all no matter what lifestyle, sexual preferences, or beliefs.
